England Consultant Physiotherapists

In England, consultant practice is defined as:

Someone who has evidenced expertise (built upon advanced practice) across four domains: expert practice; strategic enabling leadership; learning, development, improving across the system; and research and innovation; with a fifth overarching domain of consultancy at systems level.

Consultant physiotherapists have the key skillset for systems leadership and systems transformation aided by clinical credibility in their own professional field.

To aid development from advanced to consultant practice, there is a multi-professional self-assessment tool that helps to identify training needs from:

    • Transition from advanced to consultant practice.
    • 1-3 years in consultant practice.
    • 3-5 years in consultant practice.

This tool is mapped against the Muti-professional Capability and Impact Framework
